BIOGRAPHY
Mitchell is a US-Australian contemporary artist who works between these two locales. Currently she is a PhD candidate at Edith Cowan University, WA with supervisors Dr. Lyndall Adams and Dr. Paul Uhlmann. Her works have been exhibited and been collected internationally. She holds an MFA Visual Arts and Design from VCU, VA, USA and in 2017 she completed a DLGSC-WA supported artist residency at A.I.R. Gallery in NYC where she is a member, followed by a residency at Fremantle Arts Centre, W A. This 2017 double residency resulted in co-founding the WA artists’ collective Destabilising Walls, whose inaugural exhibition and forum won support from DLGSC. In 2019 Mitchell completed a solo exhibition at ECU’s Spectrum Project Space (SPS), followed by a group exhibition at Gallery 25, ECU. In January 2020 Mitchell conducted a Fringe World Festival 2020 group residency and exhibition with her own workswith Gale Mason and Harrison See in SPS. These original works were created in response to works from the ECU Art Collection, which were simultaneously exhibited at Gallery 25, which was co-curated with ECU Art Collection curator Sue Starken. In 2019, Mitchell was one of one of three Australian artist-researchers to receive the post-graduate bursary to present at ACUADS 2019 at RMIT and VCA in Melbourne, VIC. 2020 saw Mitchell complete a solo residency, with exhibited works in a collective exhibition sponsored by Artsource WA in their Old Customs House gallery, curated by Leah Robby.
