City of Cockburn Renewable Energy Public Artwork: Bicycle Tree

David Bromilow & Laura Mitchell were commissioned by the City of Cockburn for a Public Art Commission for the entrance of the Henderson Waste Recovery Park. Part of the proposal requested that where possible, recovered waste from the park be used to fabricate the artwork. Shown here is the final  Also shown are two maquettes showing two different concepts which were created for the proposal process. The winning concept was the ”Bicycle Tree” , a steel tree inspired by the Tuart forests of the site using actual bicycle parts recovered from the park. Also proposed was the “Green House”, a dada inspired interactive “Jewel-Junk House” structure whereby educational groups visiting the park could clad and reclad the structure with categories of waste recovered from the park, based on periodically changing style guides set by the artist.
